Active

Active Membership dues are $220.00 per year plus a $5.00 application fee.

Other veterinarians applying for active membership subsequent to January 1st shall pay dues for the remainder of the year on the following prorated basis:

January - March $220.00, April - June $165.00, July - September $110.00, October - December $55.00, plus a $5.00 application fee shall accompany all new membership applications.

Please list two (2) referrals and their phone numbers whom we may contact to confirm that they are acquainted with the applicant and recommend him/her for membership. The two (2) referrals are required , both of whom must be members of the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association.

New Graduate

A veterinarian applying for membership in the ALVMA during the year of graduation shall be exempt from dues for that year and for the following year, but will pay the $5.00 application fee, and shall pay dues amounting to one-half of the annual dues for the regular active members for the subsequent two (2) years.

3-4 Year Graduate

If you have been out of veterinary school for 3 to 4 years then you will only have to pay $110.00, half of the regular active members fee, plus a $5.00 application fee. If you have been out of veterinary school longer than four years, please see the Active membership category above.

Life

Upon application to the Executive Board, and with its approval and the approval of a majority of members voting at a regular meeting, life membership may be granted to:

• A member who has maintained membership for 40 years. Up to 15 years credit may be granted for membership in Associations of other States provided that the most recent 25 years was in the Alabama Association.

• A member who has completed 35 years as a member of the Association and has retired. Up to 10 years credit may be granted for membership in Associations of other States, provided that the most recent 25 years was in the Alabama Association.

• A member who has reached 65 years of age, has retired, and has been a member of the Association continuously since graduation from veterinary college. Credit may be granted for membership in Associations of other States, provided that the most recent 1/2 (one-half) of the period of membership was in the Alabama Association.

• A member who has retired due to infirmity.

For this purpose, a retired member is one who has ceased all regular employment, and whose annual earnings from occasional professional activity or other employment do not exceed the maximum earnings limit established by the U.S. Government to remain qualified for social security retirement benefits.

Life Members shall be eligible to vote and hold committee appointments but shall not hold elected office. If a Life member of less than 40 years membership returns to regular employment, this member shall be required to revert to Active member status.

Retired

A member who does not qualify for any of the requirements for Life Member, but does meet the definition for retired.

Dues for retired members shall be one third (1/3) that of active member's dues ($73.00).

Retired Members shall be eligible to vote and hold committee appointments but shall not hold elected office. If a Retired member of less than 40 years membership returns to regular employment, this member shall be required to revert to Active member status.
