Continuing Education - At the annual Emerald Coast Veterinary Conference, Conference for Food Animal Veterinarians and other meetings sponsored or co-sponsored by the ALVMA, you can stay on top of veterinary medicine in Alabama by meeting with your colleagues and hearing world-class speakers at the same time. Regional meetings are held throughout the year across the state to give members an additional resource for getting their required CE hours and updates on the profession.
FREE Educational Webinars – another form of continuing education, free to ALVMA members through the ALVMA website. There are also links to the required USDA National Veterinary Accreditation modules on the website.
Legislative Representation - The voice of many is more powerful than the voice of one. The ALVMA represents the interests of veterinarians across the state. This is a powerful voice that gets work done to benefit you in the legislature and other government bodies. The ALVMA Legislative Committee tracks bills related to animal legislation with the Executive Board reviewing and deciding positions.
Member Participation - The ALVMA is for veterinarians, and run by veterinarians. The Executive Board, elected from constituent associations across the state, along with ALVMA Committees look out for your interests. Your participation is critical in helping the ALVMA be successful. When a key issue in veterinary medicine surfaces, members have peace of mind knowing a group of their peers is working to address it.
The Alabama Veterinarian magazine is the association’s official publication dedicated to keeping members informed on veterinary issues. Brought to you in full-color, this quality magazine brings the latest news and trends from around the state, along with feature articles about your fellow ALVMA members.
E-Newsletters - The ALVMA E-Newsletter and Legislative Updates are broadcast via email to keep you abreast of current issues as they arise. The e-newsletter and urgent-issue Member Alerts will keep you informed on high-priority issues like pet food recalls, disease outbreaks and other emergencies.
Public Relations Presence - The ALVMA public relations/communications director works with the media to increase public awareness of important topics as well as to promote veterinarians and the value of veterinary services. The ALVMA also provides Media Training to enable its members to better work with the press in their own areas.
Wellness Assistance – ALVMA members can receive confidential help for personal issues through the Wellness Committee. Wellness encompasses many issues and the Committee stands ready to be of assistance.
Spay/Neuter Program – Veterinarians may sign up to participate in the Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundations Spay/Neuter Tag program to assist low income families with the cost of spaying or neutering their pets.
Free Online Ad for Relief Veterinarians - Relief veterinarians who are members receive a free listing at on the ALVMA website, making it easier for members to find timely help on short notice or long-term help for an illness or extended travel.
"Find-A-Vet” for Pet Owners - Pet owners have the ability to locate an ALVMA member veterinarian by searching by name, city or county. The public view will contain the ALVMA members’ clinic address and phone number. A member may opt out of this feature at any time.
