Update on SB93

We are happy to report that SB93, introduced on February 2 by Sen. Larry Stutts, passed the Senate March 3. This bill eliminates veterinarians from the reporting requirement under the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP). While the ALVMA was able to lobby for a rule change a year ago to exempt veterinarians from daily reporting in favor of monthly reporting, the Board would like to take this to the next step and remove the reporting requirement for our profession completely. Program benefits have been reported as questionable from veterinary reporting and the board feels it is time to eliminate this requirement of additional paperwork and liability on veterinarians. The bill moves on to action in the House of Representatives now. As you visit with any House members, please ask them to support SB93. We will keep you posted on the progress of this important legislation through the House. A copy of SB93 is available here.
