SPAY NEUTER LICENSE PLATE PROGRAM UNDERWAY

The executive office of the Alabama VMA sent out acceptance letters April 13th, 2009 to clinics/hospitals that have signed up to participate in the spay/neuter license plate program. As of the date of this E-News, nearly 100 clinics/hospitals have requested approval to participate in the program, and $13,280.00 has been granted to meet the requests to perform surgeries. Any hospital/clinic in Alabama can request approval on the stipulation that every veterinarian involved in the clinic must be a member of the Alabama VMA.

A map has been developed and is currently on the ALVMA website which lists all participating hospitals/clinics by simply clicking on each individual county. Efforts have been made to publicize the program to Medicaid recipients through printed publications put out by the state Medicaid office. Click here to view the map and participating clinics and hospitals.

The initial pre-sale campaign resulted in nearly $65,000 being made available to the Foundation to begin the spay/neuter program. The ongoing sale of the plates will continue to funnel proceeds into the fund to keep the program going. It is important that Association members continue to publicize the sale of the plates to their clients. The initial $65,000 is a great start but much more will be needed to make sure the program is truly effective.

As of Thursday, May 07, 2009, permit numbers have been issued to perform surgeries totaling $13,280.00.
