HELP YOUR SERVICE DOG CLIENTS RECEIVE FREE EYE EXAMINATIONS, MAY 2009

The AmericanCollege of Veterinary Ophthalmologists is hosting its 2nd ACVO National Service Dog Eye Exam Day, May 4-8, 2009. In 2008 the event provided free eye screening examinations to over 1,500 Service Dogs. Please pass on this information to your clients to help us meet our goal of examining 5,000 dogs in 2009.

Veterinary ophthalmologists across the US and Canada will be participating in the program. Dogs that qualify include: handicapped assistance dogs, detection dogs, police dogs, search and rescue dogs, and therapy dogs that are Delta Society certified. Dogs must be active 'working dogs' that were certified by a formal training program or organization or currently enrolled in a formal training program. Those that were examined in the 2008 event are welcome to participate again in 2009. The follow-up blood panel will not be a part of this year’s event so you need not worry about that complication. Registration for the event will commence on April 1, 2009. Please direct your clients to visit www.acvoeyeexam.org for more information.
