Remembering a Good Man

By Charles F. Franz – Executive Director

Many of you were in attendance for the Memorial Service of long time ALVMA member Dr. George Millis (Auburn 1973) of Montgomery who passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2008.  Dr. Millis was a highly respected member of the Montgomery veterinary community and a long time member of the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association.  He gave of his time and talents in many ways.  George mentored high school students (I had the privilege of being one of these fortunate individuals) through a veterinary explorer post.  His clients all loved him dearly for the interest he took not only in their pets, but in each one of them.

His passing is a tremendous loss to his family, the veterinary community and his many clients and friends.  George will be remembered for his sense of humor, ability to relate to people, his intelligence, and a genuine caring attitude for all those around him.  We will miss seeing him at veterinary meetings and hearing his humorous stories.  Friends and acquaintances who have been ribbed by George have accused him of having a photographic memory, because he never forgot some of the foolish things we may have done years ago.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mary Ellen, Emily, and the entire Millis family.

The family has indicated that anyone wishing to make a donation in George’s memory may do so to Aldersgate Methodist Church, 6610 Vaughn Road, Montgomery 36116 or to the Montgomery Alabama Non-Traditional Equesterians (MANE) at 3699 Wallahatchie Rd., Pike Road, Alabama 36064.
