FOUNDATION RECEIVES LEGISLATIVE APPROVAL
FOR SPECIAL LICENSE PLATE
|
|
The Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation (ALVMF) has received approval from the Alabama Legislature to offer a Spay-Neuter license plate to state residents. The efforts to have this accomplished have been in-depth, but thanks to the persistence of the association and foundation leadership, it has finally come to fruition.

The cost of the tag is the standard $50 like other specialized tags, with $41.25 of each sale going to the Foundation to assist low-income families with the cost of spaying and neutering their pets. 1,000 tags must be pre-sold in order for the program to be implemented. The law requires the 1,000 mark must be met within 12 months from the date the Legislative Oversight Committee completes the final procedures for the actual sale, which is anticipated to be around December 1, 2007.

There will be promotional material forthcoming announcing the special plate to the public and your help as an ALVMA member will be needed in making sure the message gets out. The Alabama VMA encourages all members to consider purchasing one of these special plates in support of your Foundation and the spay/neuter emphasis currently underway.

Long time association member and 1999 Veterinarian of the Year, Robert Pitman has already committed to ordering a plate for himself and each member of his staff. Thank you Dr. Pitman for leading the charge in this very important effort!
