McCurdy Honored as Veterinarian of the Year

Dr. Lewis McCurdy of Huntsville, Alabama was recognized as Veterinarian of the year during the Alabama VMA’s Annual Convention on June 30, 2007. Dr. McCurdy is past president of the ALVMA and has been instrumental in organizing the ALVMA Foundation as well as serving as Foundation president for the last two years. He has been very active in representing veterinary interests as liaison to the Huntsville Humane Association and serving in numerous officer roles for the Madison County Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. McCurdy appeared stunned by the recognition but genuinely grateful to have been selected. As he accepted the award, he stated “I thought you had to be a life member of 40 or 50 years before getting this.” He told those in attendance he was very humbled by the award and very appreciative, and felt “there were other members more deserving.” His nomination for Veterinarian of the Year was submitted by the North Alabama Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. McCurdy received his DVM from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1974. His wife Nancy is active in the association auxiliary where she served as president for several years.
