During his acceptance speech Dr. Chasteen recalled his early childhood and what influenced his decision to become a veterinarian, specifically his love for animals. He recanted a story about how as a child he had a fascination with formaldehyde. As the laughter subsided, Dr. Chasteen said "My family and probably a lot of others were pleased with my decision to become a veterinarian." He encouraged his colleagues to become involved in the association and to help it grow.
