ALVMA Legislative Day
 
We hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to meet with your representatives at the Alabama VMA Legislative Day on Tuesday, March 23, 2010. We will meet at noon on the 6th floor lobby of the State House, 11 South Union Street in downtown Montgomery. From 12:30 to 1:30 there will be time for every one to meet individually with their representatives. We will have information concerning our Practice Act and other legislation for you to use while talking to your representatives. After these meetings we will walk to the Center for Commerce for a program in the first floor cafeteria with the Alabama VMA lobbyist, Jeff Martin, and invited dignitaries.  All legislators are invited for a reception from 5:00-7:00 p.m on the first floor of the Center for Commerce, 401 Adams Avenue, Montgomery, AL.
 
The parking deck at the Center for Commerce will be available and can be entered from either South Decatur St. or Hull St. Further instructions will follow.

AVMA, veterinary foundation tackle veterinary shortage with new incentive program

(SCHAUMBURG, Ill.) March 12, 2010 – Their numbers are dwindling at such

a rate that our food supply may be in jeopardy – and that decline may continue as their

educational debt continues to rise.

Former USDA leader and AVMA CEO, Dr. Ron DeHaven
responds in video to USDA decision to scrap animal ID system

(SCHAUMBURG, Ill.) March 9, 2010—A recent decision by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to scrap a national animal identification system could seriously hinder U.S. veterinarians’ ability to track diseased animals and prevent the spread of those diseases —diseases that could spread to humans and cost U.S. farmers millions of dollars.

That’s the message that Dr. Ron DeHaven, chief executive officer of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and a former head of the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, delivers in a new video which can be viewed on www.avmatv.org, the AVMA Media Library (www.avma.org) and YouTube.  “I have a number of concerns,” Dr. DeHaven says in the video.
