Legal and Financial Strategies for Protecting Your Business and Personal Assets.

The Alabama Veterinary Medical Association and Merial are offering two hours of legal continuing education to all Alabama veterinarians free of charge. These CE courses will be held in five locations throughout the state. Valuable topics such as tax laws, retirement accounts, estate tax laws, single owner practices, partnerships, buyout agreements and life insurance will be covered. This program is designed to make you aware of the numerous legal facets to consider when planning for your business. Veterinarians who attend this seminar will leave with a better understanding of the basic legal documents and instruments required for themselves and their single or multi-partner practices to protect their assets, families, and general health and well being.

Ethan Dawe - About the speaker...

Ethan graduated from the University of South Alabama in 1994 with a BS in Business and Finance.  He has owned Innovative Financial Solutions, LLC, an independent financial and business consulting company, since 2005. IFS offers a complete array of financial products, financial services and consulting.   IFS focuses on setting up tax-exempt retirement accounts, life and disability insurance, buy-sell agreements, trusts, layered protection, exit strategies or continuation plans and proper estate planning.

Ethan has many years of experience providing financial and business consulting to veterinary associates and practice owners all over the eastern half of the USA. He has spent years working directly with veterinary students addressing their financial concerns.

Ethan has spoken to VBMA chapters at Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State, and Georgia. He also regularly delivers presentations at Tuskegee University SVM and Auburn University CVM.

In 2009, Ethan helped develop a financial awareness elective at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. He helps lead this elective which has become a highly sought-after course for second and third year AU-CVM students.

Through a program sponsored by the ALVMA and KVMA, Ethan is available to meet with Auburn University CVM and Tuskegee University SVM students one-on-one about their financial concerns. He has met with hundreds of students over the years.

In 2014, Ethan began to facilitate the Practice Management Rotation for 4th year students at AU-CVM. This rotation is an intensive hands-on learning experience. Each rotation is two weeks of assessing actual veterinary practices both quantitatively and qualitatively.

He is a veterinary owner and has associate clients in more than 25 states.  In June 2016, he authored the book: The Financial Guide for Veterinarians.

This presentation provides a wonderful overview on how to improve communication with employees while maintaining legal guidelines. It provides a thorough examination of a proper employee handbook as well as discussions on pay models. It also offers unique in depth commentary on specific sections of the Internal Revenue Service tax code. This is a terrific alternative to your traditional Legal/Financial CE.
